Capella Kyoto presents a quietly assured vision of contemporary luxury, seamlessly woven into the cultural and architectural fabric of the ancient city. Located in the historic Miyagawa-chō area of Gion, the hotel occupies a site of exceptional resonance, neighboring Kennin-ji, Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple, and the kaburenjo that sustains the traditions of geisha and maiko culture. Designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates with interiors by Singapore-based Brewin Design Office, the low-rise architecture reinterprets traditional machiya forms through layered courtyards, filtered light, tactile materials, and deliberate restraint. Built on the former site of a local school, the hotel retains a strong sense of memory while offering a calm, inward-looking sanctuary closely attuned to its surroundings. Capella Kyoto comprises 89 guestrooms and suites, including 29 suites and six rare natural onsen suites, with entry-level rooms starting at approximately 50 square meters. Interiors favor warm, muted tones and refined Japanese detailing, creating a residential atmosphere defined by comfort, privacy, and serenity.

Dining plays a defining role in the Capella Kyoto experience, balancing local seasonality with international perspective. SoNoMa by SingleThread, created in collaboration with California’s three-Michelin-starred SingleThread and led by chefs Kyle and Katina Connaughton, brings Kyoto’s produce into dialogue with a farm-driven culinary philosophy through a refined tasting format. Lanterne offers a more relaxed approach with modern French bistro cuisine, while Yoi focuses on contemporary kappo dining, where precision, rhythm, and technique shape an intimate counter experience. A dedicated patisserie completes the offering with elegant pastries and takeaway sweets.
