Merdeka 118 rises 678.9 meters above the old heart of Kuala Lumpur, the tallest tower in Asia Pacific and second in the world only to the Burj Khalifa. Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur occupies its upper reaches, from level 75 to level 114, and since opening in August 2025 it has held two distinctions at once: the first Park Hyatt in Malaysia, and the brand's 50th hotel worldwide. Measured by altitude, it is also the second-highest hotel on earth. The interiors, more than a decade in the making, come from London's GA Group, the studio behind properties for Rosewood and Corinthia. Rather than staging Malaysia as spectacle, the designers folded it into the details: batik patterns, songket weaving, and wood-carved motifs run quietly through the 252 rooms, 27 of them suites, set between levels 100 and 112. Every room measures at least 53 square meters, with floor-to-ceiling glass framing a skyline that includes KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers. The tower's angular facade traces the raised arm of Tunku Abdul Rahman declaring independence in 1957.
Dining begins on level 75 at Merdeka Grill, where signature dishes are finished at your table: wood-roasted salmon, chateaubriand, and vanilla ice cream crowned with Oscietra caviar. Cacao Mixology & Chocolate pairs cocktails with chocolate as live bossa nova drifts over a view of the Petronas towers. Level 99 is given over to wellness, where a 30-meter infinity pool runs along a wall of glass and the spa builds its treatments around circadian rhythms, using products from Ireland's Ground Wellbeing and Hungary's Omorovicza, with a Himalayan salt alcove and vitality pool close by. The tower connects directly to Merdeka MRT station, Petaling Street's Chinatown is a short walk away, and Stadium Merdeka, where independence was proclaimed, sits just below. Wake at the highest point in the city, and Kuala Lumpur's past and present are both at your feet.
