Hotel Proverbs Taipei

Taipei  •  Taiwan
Located in the heart of Taipei’s East District, HOTEL PROVERBS Taipei is a member of Design Hotels™ and a partner of Marriott® International. This boutique hotel was designed by globally renowned architect Ray Chen, with luxury, sophistication, and passion that represent a new aesthetic of space. Inside the mysterious black steel mesh exterior, the interior is contrarily constructed with sedate copper, mellow wood, textured leather, and delicate fabrics. The delicate butler services furthermore bring warmth into the space, while “Indulge Yourself”, the brand philosophy, conveys the enthusiasm of people to pursue ultimate life and modern aesthetics.

Inspired by Spanish artist Goya’s masterpiece “Los Proverbios” series, which present different people of the world and their lives. The Chinese translation of “proverbs” also explains the truth and wisdom of life. It is the metaphor of the life stories taking place every day in the 42 rooms of the hotel. The guest rooms were unconventionally designed with a large amount of copper, volcanic blocks, marbles, and walnut. From overall design to small details, stereotypes were broken everywhere to build a tranquil and restrained space out of seemingly complicated stacking, and give pleasant surprises around every corner.

And food-lovers will not be disappointed either when they visit HOTEL PROVERBS Taipei. Located on the first floor, the high-end TK SEAFOOD & STEAK is the best-known expert of high-temperature, direct-fire, oven-grilled steaks in Taiwan. EAST END, one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars, is the best place to enjoy the night in the city. Iki Retreat by Onko Chishin

Perched on the mystical coastline of Iki Island, a place historically revered as a sanctuary of the gods, Iki Retreat by Onko Chishin offers a profound architectural dialogue between human shelter and the untamed beauty of the Genkai Sea. The property is conceived not merely as a hotel, but as a womb-like sanctuary where the boundaries between the interior and the horizon dissolve. Upon entering, guests are enveloped by a 'cocooning' atmosphere, achieved through a masterful interplay of warm natural wood wainscoting, soft textures, and a minimalist aesthetic that prioritizes serenity. The architect has intentionally lowered the gaze by utilizing plank beds, inviting enveloping chairs, and low-slung Japanese dining tables. Combined with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, this design choice creates a surreal sensation of hovering directly over the water, allowing the ocean to act as the room's living canvas. The experience of seclusion is absolute, with just 12 suites serving as private observatories for the drama of the tides. Each retreat features its own open-air bath fed by the island’s ancient 'Golden Onsen,' a mineral-rich hot spring that has bubbled up for centuries. The connection to the island is further celebrated through culinary storytelling, where the kitchen transforms local treasures—such as the rare Iki beef and freshly caught sea urchin—into exquisite courses that mirror the seasons.

The result is a 25-acre resort that feels at once rugged and opulent, with a dramatic, almost cinematic sense of place. Dining forms another essential part of the resort’s identity. Hidden within lush gardens, Coqoon Spa adds yet another layer of fantasy, with its cocoon-like treatment spaces suspended among the trees and its deeply personalized wellness rituals. Of course, the result is calming, airy spaces, some of which open onto wooden terraces, while, an overarching floral theme—visible on everything from cushion covers to chopstick wrappers—serves to enhance the relaxed, warm-weather vibe. Often compared to New York’s SoHo, Condesa is seen as one of Mexico City’s trendier areas. Provocateur

Berlin  •  Germany
From the outside, it reads as classic Charlottenburg — a 1911 Art Nouveau building on a quiet residential street, its façade carefully restored by TSSB Architekten, the kind of West Berlin address that suggests discretion. Step inside Provocateur Berlin and the discretion evaporates entirely. The interior, designed by Saar Zafrir, commits fully to a burlesque fantasy: deep cherry-red and midnight-blue velvets, cascading chandeliers, mirror panels on the walls and ceilings, surfaces that invite touch. Berlin Brandenburg Airport is about thirty minutes by car; the Konstanzer Strasse U-Bahn station is a two-minute walk; the boutiques of Kurfürstendamm are ten minutes on foot. The hotel holds just 58 rooms and suites — deliberately small, each one a set piece unto itself.

The rooms deliver on the premise without tipping into gimmick: clawfoot bathtubs, opulent fabrics, Nespresso machines, minibars, and blackout drapes ground the theatrical aesthetic in genuine comfort. Upgraded categories add balconies or sitting areas; suites extend into separate living rooms. Golden Phoenix, the hotel's restaurant run by celebrated Berlin chef The Duc Ngo, serves a French-Chinese hybrid menu inside a retro Chinoiserie dining room that functions as its own destination — the food and the setting are equally considered. The Provocateur Bar & Salon, modeled on the award-winning Roomers Bar in Frankfurt, draws both guests and locals into a golden, low-lit atmosphere; the bartenders are knowledgeable and the cocktail list reflects it. Downstairs, La Cave — an industrial-era cellar space — takes private events.

Palazzo Daniele was reshaped by the milanese duo Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, inspired by the idea of absence, stripped back as much as possible while restoring historical features such as ornate frescoes and mosaic flooring to create the space for a contemporary art collection all around the property. Monastic decor and bare walls boost the 19th century frescoes ceilings with cracks. Each room has a different artwork. Ancient family portraits alternate with works of contemporary art.

Bolzano  •  Italy
Hotel Schgaguler is a quietly striking design-led retreat at the foothills of the Dolomites, where contemporary architecture meets the spiritual calm of the Alpine landscape. Set in the postcard-perfect village of Castelrotto and bordering vast mountain meadows, the hotel offers an ever-changing panorama of peaks, grasslands, and luminous skies throughout the seasons. The name Schgaguler, meaning “to watch over” in the local South Tyrolean dialect, is more than symbolic: the building itself feels like a series of lookout points, conceived to honor the surrounding nature by framing it with restraint and respect. Clean geometric lines, generous expanses of glass, and a disciplined use of natural materials define the architecture, while light and negative space create a sense of visual rhythm and calm. Interiors balance Alpine craftsmanship, wood, stone, and tactile textiles, with bespoke furnishings, resulting in spaces that feel both warm and rigorously modern.

The hotel’s 42 rooms and suites range from refined mountain-view accommodations to more spacious suites, many with private balconies or terraces that open directly onto sweeping valley and meadow views, allowing daylight and seasonal shifts to shape the experience indoors. Public areas are equally contemplative, from panoramic terraces and quiet reading corners to a fireplace lounge that becomes especially inviting in winter. Dining centers on a refined interpretation of Italian and South Tyrolean cuisine, with a strong emphasis on local ingredients and contemporary technique, thoughtfully paired with a curated selection of regional wines. A relaxed bar and lounge complete the rhythm of the day, transitioning seamlessly from daytime repose to evening conversation. Myconian Avaton

Mikonos  •  Greece
Myconian Avaton stands as one of Mykonos’ most architecturally distinctive luxury resorts, defined by a sculptural, minimalist design language that fuses Cycladic terrain, sweeping Aegean views, and confident contemporary aesthetics. Cascading down a dramatic clifftop, the resort commands uninterrupted vistas across a broad bay and the endless blue horizon, creating a sense of seclusion and sensory focus that feels far removed from the island’s more frenetic scenes. Sharp lines, geometric volumes, and natural stone shape the exterior, while interiors emphasize restraint, muted tones, generous negative space, and bespoke furnishings, allowing light, sea air, and shifting shades of blue to become integral elements of the design. The resort offers 114 rooms, suites, and villas, most with private terraces, whirlpools, or private pools, all oriented toward the Aegean and designed to balance visual drama with a high degree of privacy.

Public spaces continue this dialogue between architecture and landscape. The signature infinity pool appears to dissolve into the sea beyond, serving as a focal point from relaxed daytime lounging to the quiet theater of sunset. Spa and fitness facilities are deliberately understated, reinforcing a calm, restorative rhythm. Dining mirrors the resort’s overall philosophy: contemporary Mediterranean cuisine rooted in seasonal Greek ingredients, presented with precision rather than excess, and framed by expansive sea views and natural light. At Myconian Avaton, luxury is not performative; it emerges from the coherence between design confidence, spatial purity, and the surrounding landscape. The result is a refined Aegean hideaway, ideally suited to travelers who value architectural expression, privacy, and a distinctly modern interpretation of island living.

The building, designed by Capella Garcia, stands out for its pale limestone façade and curved balconies that resemble turning pages, while the interiors by Baranowitz + Kronenberg respond to Barcelona’s light, materials, and social rhythm with a warmer, more tactile approach. MR PORTER Steakhouse, Bar & Lounge merges a steakhouse, cocktail bar, and urban gathering place into one polished setting, while the rooftop pool and terrace bring a lighter, more seductive energy to Barcelona’s afternoons and evenings. In spirit, Sir Victor Hotel Barcelona is not a design hotel defined by excess, but a refined city retreat shaped by architecture, literary reference, local culture, and contemporary lifestyle, ideal for travelers who want to stay at the aesthetic heart of Barcelona rather than simply near its landmarks.
