Ayan Zalaat Hotel & Spa

Mongolia has a name for its sky: "the eternal blue heaven." It is not a poetic construction, it describes what you actually see when you arrive. Ayan Zalaat Hotel & Spa sits beneath it, in a sheltered valley at the southern edge of Ulaanbaatar, bordered by the Bogd Khan Uul UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — one of the world's oldest protected natural areas, under conservation since 1778. Ayan comes from Sanskrit: "gift from God." The hotel occupies a 13-hectare private estate landscaped with native vegetation, six kilometers from the city center and roughly twenty from Chinggis Khaan International Airport. The 32 rooms and suites are fitted with Italian furniture and European craftsmanship; floor-to-ceiling windows frame Bogd Khan Mountain and dissolve the line between interior and landscape. A member of Leading Hotels of the World, the property runs a full-time team of over 130, an unusual ratio for a hotel of this size.

Ten dining and social venues cover exceptional range for a 32-room property: Roma Ristorante for Italian and Mediterranean, 8 Ounce Steakhouse & Grill for premium cuts, Lost in China for refined Chinese cuisine, The Nipponian Room for Japanese, with breakfast venues and lounges alongside. Ayan Spa draws from Mongolian healing wisdom and Swiss wellness principles — indoor pool, sauna, and massage therapies built around stillness and intention. A two-lane bowling alley, snooker tables, and a private cinema ensure leisure within the estate is not weather-dependent. The Zalaat Ballroom and three meeting rooms handle corporate events and private celebrations. For travelers who have covered Asia's established luxury destinations and want something with genuinely different geography, Ulaanbaatar provides it — and Ayan Zalaat is the right base from which to find it.

Shangri-La Ulaanbaatar

Shangri-La Ulaanbaatar is located right in the heart of the city centre. It is an ideal base for both business and leisure travelers and within walking distance of the famous Government House, Great Chinggis Khaan Square and main offices and embassies. The elegantly appointed guestrooms range from 42 sqm, or 450 sqf, and are the large lead-in rooms in Ulaanbaatar. All guestrooms and suites either overlook the Nairamdal Park to the south or the Great Chinggis Khaan Square and city panorama to the north.
