Belitung is a large Indonesian island, about 4,500 km² (1,740 sq mi). Together with nearby Bangka and other small islands, it forms a sizable province. Once known for tin mining, Belitung is now better known for nature. Its beaches are marked by striking granite boulders along shallow shores, sometimes house-sized, contrasting with white sand. In the clear water, swimming and snorkeling reveal healthy coral and many fish.

Adults can reach 10 feet and 330 pounds; hatchlings are 20 inches. They hunt deer, goats, and pigs. Rangers must escort all visitors.
