Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, Anguilla

A line of white domed villas runs along Maundays Bay, a mile-long crescent of white sand, so from the water Cap Juluca looks like a small Moorish town afloat in the Caribbean. It sits at the end of a slip of land on Anguilla's West End, salt ponds on one side and ocean on the other, a hideaway within a hideaway. Opened in 1988 and rebuilt after Hurricane Irma by HKS in a 121-million-dollar project, it reopened in 2019 hardier against storms, and Travel + Leisure named it one of the year's best new hotels. Across 24 villas, its 113 rooms and suites wear handmade tiles on floors, walls, and ceilings, so barefoot from sand to room stays soft underfoot. Ground-floor rooms open onto the dunes; upper rooms take in the sea and rooftops. The in-room bar, too large to call a minibar, is stocked by your Belmond host from a list of whatever you like.

Here a holiday is stripped to its simplest form: barefoot, unhurried. The sea-facing Cap Juluca Spa by Guerlain turns recovery into a ritual; for movement, take to beach yoga or the free windsurfers, kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkel gear, and treat all of Maundays Bay as your pool. The table runs three ways: Pimms on the white sand for bright island flavors; Cip's by Cipriani, named for Belmond's Venice grande dame, bringing Italian polish to the beach; and UCHU for a Peruvian note. Many herbs and vegetables come from the chef's garden, from plate to cocktail glass. Most guests fly to St Martin, then cross by a 50-minute boat, a passage that is itself the start of letting go.

Malliouhana, Auberge Resorts Collection

The iconic oceanside retreat that put Anguilla on the glam map looks refreshed thanks to new beachfront suites and a smart, toes-in-the-sand bar, as well as a reimagined infinity-edge pool that seems to cascade into the sea below. The spa also has been expanded with its own infinity-edge pool, while all 63 accommodations feel bright with an updated, island-inspired decor. Go kayaking or kitesurfing and breathe in “om” during a complimentary yoga class, then dine alfresco at Cafe Celeste, where the multitiered design ensures a water view from every table.

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla claims a promontory on the northwest shore of this flat Caribbean island, spanning 35 acres between Meads Bay and Barnes Bay. Anguilla is a place you come to do nothing; the terrain is famously level, yet the island holds some of the most celebrated beaches in the world. Its 181 accommodations range from spacious studios to five-bedroom villas, and roughly 80 percent open onto ocean views. Los Angeles designer Kelly Wearstler shaped the interiors in sandy beige, playful yet composed. One-bedroom suites of nearly 1,000 square feet add private plunge pools and marble baths with deep soaking tubs and walk-in showers. The real headliners are the two-level private villas on the western side above Barnes Bay, where the sunsets are best. Draw the curtains at dawn and Caribbean blue fills the glass; the island's frequent double rainbows even inspired a spa treatment by that name.

Every restaurant here is open-air, angled at the two bays. SALT sets the day in motion with its breakfast buffet, and Lima-Limón above Barnes Bay leans Mexican and boho-chic, tacos beside a guava margarita. At the western end of Meads Bay, Bamboo Bar and Grill turns out house pizzas and spiny lobster salad over a crescent of sand. At sundown the finest seat is the Sunset Lounge, where cocktails and sushi meet the sea swallowing the sun. Three pools perch across the grounds: the adults-only Sunset Pool is a saltwater infinity edge above the cliffs, while the Bamboo Pool sits steps from Meads Bay for the children. A spa overlooks the Caribbean, and three tennis courts, ball courts, a Sea Centre, and a year-round Kids for All Seasons club round out the grounds. It is a 15-minute drive from Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport, or a boat or small plane from St. Maarten. Put the calendar in a drawer; the sea is right there, and the day keeps only the rhythm of the tide.
