SO/ Auckland

SO/ Auckland takes over the former Reserve Bank of New Zealand at 67 Customs Street East, a building that once held the nation's largest gold reserve. Opened in late 2018 as the brand's first property in the Pacific, the 16-storey hotel packs 130 rooms and suites into a structure whose bones now wear a layer of deliberate provocation. New Zealand fashion label WORLD shaped the visual identity around Auckland's volcanic geology, translating topographic contours into a swirling emblem that recurs across interiors and staff uniforms. Guest rooms split into three design moods: Vapour, Liquid, and Solid, each with a distinct palette. Dutch house Moooi furnished the ground floor, and Marcel Wanders' Mega Chandelier, one of three in the world, hangs above MIXO Bar. Inside the rooms, a signature freestanding bathtub anchors the space, windows frame the Waitematā Harbour or city skyline, and the minibar is complimentary. Upper-floor Loft and Atelier Suites add living areas; The Waitematā and The Treasury VIP suites crown the building.

Harbour Society on the fifteenth floor centres its menu on seasonal, grill-driven dishes with Asian inflections, served against harbour views that sharpen as the sun drops. One level up, HI-SO is the rooftop bar Auckland's skyline deserves, its terrace aimed at Rangitoto Island. Javalab Café opens the morning with house-made pastries; MIXO Bar, beneath that chandelier, is the after-dark gathering point. SO/ SPA draws on WATERLILY and Comfort Zone for treatments including Vino Therapy and pink Himalayan salt stone massage. A 20-metre heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, and Finnish sauna complete the wellness circuit. Britomart station is three minutes on foot; the ferry terminal, Viaduct Harbour, and Wynyard Quarter all within strolling distance. This is a hotel that doesn't ask you to retreat from Auckland but to wear it.

JW Marriott Auckland

JW Marriott Auckland embodies a calm, considered approach to contemporary luxury in the heart of the city, positioning JW Marriott’s signature sense of mindfulness between Auckland’s harbor and its urban rhythm. The hotel’s 286 rooms and suites are defined by clean lines and generous proportions, dressed in natural wood, stone, and soft neutral tones that create a quietly residential feel, while expansive windows frame views of Waitematā Harbour or the city skyline. Public spaces move at an unhurried pace, reflecting the brand’s “Pause, Breathe, Reflect” philosophy, and the JW Spa offers a restorative counterpoint to city life with an indoor pool, fitness facilities, and treatment rooms designed for reset and balance.

Dining mirrors this sense of restraint and quality: Trivet centers on modern grill techniques and locally sourced ingredients to present contemporary New Zealand cuisine with depth and clarity, while Forum Bar & Lounge serves as an all-day gathering point, transitioning seamlessly from coffee and light fare to evening cocktails. At JW Marriott Auckland, luxury is expressed not through spectacle, but through proportion, service, and rhythm—an assured urban retreat for travelers who value refinement, balance, and a measured sense of place.

Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour

Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour blends French elegance with a distinctly nautical sensibility, establishing itself as one of Auckland’s most romantic boutique luxury addresses, where Sofitel’s art de vivre unfolds along the яхт-lined edge of Viaduct Harbour. With just 91 rooms and suites, the hotel favors intimacy over scale, dressing its interiors in soft tones, bespoke furnishings, and gently layered lighting; many accommodations open to marina views or private terraces, allowing rippling water and passing yachts to become part of the daily tableau. Public spaces feel refined yet personal, moving at an unhurried pace that contrasts gracefully with the surrounding urban energy, while the Sofitel Spa, created in partnership with L’Occitane, offers aromatic treatments and therapies designed for deep relaxation.

Dining carries a distinctly French soul: La Marée anchors the experience with classic French cuisine enriched by New Zealand seafood and local produce, delivering a polished, multi-layered fine-dining moment; 21 Viaduct Café provides an all-day, more relaxed setting paired with harbor views, ideal for breakfasts and daytime gatherings; and Sabrage Champagne Bar comes alive in the evening, where champagne and carefully crafted cocktails lend a celebratory note to the marina after dark. At Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour, luxury is defined not by grandeur, but by nuance, of detail, mood, and setting, offering style-conscious travelers a poised and elegant waterfront retreat in the heart of the city.
