Rosyth, just north-west of Edinburgh, is a gateway to Scotland's scenery and sophistication. Edinburgh, the elegant capital, sits on seven hills, dominated by its 7th-century castle above the Royal Mile and cobbled streets. From Arthur's Seat, enjoy sweeping views over the city and back toward Rosyth.

Scotland's Isle of May is a Scottish Natural Heritage National Nature Reserve and a major seabird breeding site, with about 250,000 seabirds and over 40,000 occupied puffin burrows. Species include kittiwakes, shags, eiders, guillemots, razorbills, Arctic, Sandwich and Common Terns, and several gulls. It lies about 4 nautical miles off mainland Scotland and is used to survey migrating passerines and ring breeding seabirds. The island is small: 1.8 km long and under 0.5 km wide.

The sandstone cliffs of the Isle of Noss are home to gannets, puffins, guillemots, shags, kittiwakes, razorbills, fulmars, and great skuas. Designated a National Nature Reserve in 1955, it has one of Europe's largest and most diverse seabird colonies. Inland hillsides have been grazed by sheep since the late 1800s, when about 20 people lived there to run the sheep farm; shaggy Shetland ponies also graze the windblown slopes.
