Waldorf Astoria Helsinki

Waldorf Astoria Helsinki presents a quietly confident expression of urban luxury, standing as one of Finland’s most distinguished addresses while seamlessly blending the brand’s refined heritage with the clarity of Nordic design. Located in the heart of Helsinki near Esplanadi Park, the Design District, and key cultural and commercial landmarks, the hotel offers exceptional convenience for both business travelers and city explorers. Housed within a neoclassical historic building, the interiors preserve original proportions and elegance while introducing contemporary Nordic elements, natural stone, warm woods, and a soft, neutral palette, creating an atmosphere that feels composed, timeless, and reassuring. The hotel’s 116 guestrooms and suites are thoughtfully designed with understated sophistication, offering a calm retreat amid the city’s rhythm.

Dining unfolds with measured elegance throughout the day. Lilja Dining Room, the signature restaurant, draws on Nordic and French influences, showcasing locally sourced Finnish ingredients in refined breakfast offerings and a classic weekend afternoon tea with fine teas, Champagne, and delicate pastries. Lilja Terrace, set within a glass-enclosed conservatory, provides a relaxed year-round à la carte experience, while Peacock Bar transitions effortlessly from daytime conversations to an intimate evening lounge, serving expertly crafted cocktails and select wines. A 24-hour in-room dining service ensures elevated cuisine at any hour. Skýra Retreat

In winter, Lake Norvajärvi freezes into a vast, matte silence — light pressing through the ice, the pine forest holding still around it. Skýra Retreat sits on the shore of this lake, twenty minutes from Rovaniemi Airport, in Finnish Lapland where the northern lights emerge from behind the tree line and the darkness arrives early and completely. The property centers on a restored 1950s village schoolhouse, brought back to life under founder Susanne Hulbekkmo's direction, with new log suites and a spa by architects Johannes Jutila and Enni Hukka of UKI Arkkitehdit, and interiors shaped by designer Marjo Saarinen in natural materials and muted, nature-derived color. Opened in December 2025, it is the first Finnish member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The retreat holds just 15 rooms.

Accommodation runs from suites in the Old Schoolhouse to traditionally built Log Suites, two Grande Suites, the Teacher's Chamber, and a private Lakeside Villa; bare timber, fireplaces, personal saunas, and curated book collections appear throughout. The restaurant occupies the old gymnasium — basketball hoops replaced by chandeliers. Breakfasts are table-served Nordic affairs; afternoons bring pullakahvit, the Finnish ritual of coffee and fresh pastries; evenings offer a three-course seasonal dinner. The Skýra Nordic Spa is included for all guests: panoramic and wood-heated saunas, open-air jacuzzis, and ice-hole swimming, all built around the Finnish thermal cycle of heat, cold, and rest. The Herbal Embrace — a 75-minute massage using a guest-chosen blend of local botanicals — is the signature treatment. Daily programming covers forest bathing, morning yoga, sound baths, and folklore sauna ceremonies; snowmobile and reindeer sleigh excursions are bookable through local partners. Skýra does not offer you many choices. It offers you the right ones.
