Hôtel Crillon le Brave

Wind your way through narrow alleyways, the scent of wisteria in the air. Walk across the hidden cobbled courtyards. Stop to take in mesmerising views of the surrounding hills. Hôtel Crillon le Brave makes quite a first impression. A quintessentially French hideaway that fuses the charms of a 17th-century hamlet with contemporary luxury. The hotel's nine stone houses will whisk you back in time. But the rooms and suites give Provençal traditions a distinctly modern twist. Think terracotta tiles, colourful throws and handpicked antique furniture. Once you've settled in, make your way to the outdoor pool for a relaxing swim. Or wander to the spa for a restorative massage.

Le Vallon De Valrugues & Spa

A Greco-Roman style bastide set in pretty gardens close to Saint Remy de Provence, Le Vallon De Valrugues & Spa provides a taste of Provencal magic with gourmet cuisine in the gastronomic restaurant, a spa with a heated indoor pool, an inviting outdoor pool and a wealth of diversions.

The atmosphere at Le Vallon De Valrugues & Spa is one of elegance and refinement yet with the warmth, light, scents and colours of Provence. Expect polished wooden floors, statues and fresh interiors and outside, beautiful flora and fauna and the songs of çicadas.

Eat gourmet food and drink vintage wines in the period splendour of the dining room or choose the poolside bistro for a more casual lunch experience during high season. If you require complete privacy, stay in the Le Vallon De Valrugues & Spa Prestige Suite and dine on the terrace by your own private swimming pool.

InterContinental Marseille Hotel Dieu

The epitome of luxury, the InterContinental Marseille-Hotel Dieu is located in Marseille’s historic Panier district. You can enjoy a pastis aperitif on the terrace with views of Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica before dining on Mediterranean dishes in the Michelin-starred Alcyone restaurant. Work out in the fitness room, swim in the indoor pool, or unwind with a treatment in the chic SPA by Clarins. Five minutes’ walk away, boats line the quay of the Vieux-Port, in the heart of the city.

Villa Gallici

Paul Cézanne missed Aix terribly whenever he left, and never ceased to be inspired by its beauty. Many after him succumbed to the charm of this town and the ambience of this Florentine residence. The rooms are sumptuously decorated, and open onto a private garden filled with the fragrance of lavender. The cuisine pays tribute to Provence with dishes like sautéed loin of lamb and aubergine caviar with olives, black garlic sauce and fried basil. Try the famous local speciality of Calisson, sweets flavoured with melon and orange. Villa Gallici offers a special “Cézanne package”, which includes a visit to the painter’s studio.

Chateau de Fonscolombe

Once home to a large family of Provençal humanists, Château de Fonscolombe has preserved its soul. Its salons of Genoa leather and Chinese wallpaper still resonate with their lively character. The park, with paths lined by majestic trees, is the fantastic oeuvre of a lineage of botanists. As for the restaurant L’Orangerie, it too has embraced the chic, rustic and Provençal charm of the estate. Soft and subdued in winter, it takes its summer quarters in the shade of a large bald cypress. Chef Quentin Durand breathes his creativity into a modern cuisine with original Provencal flavors in harmony with the richness of the terroir.

Le Couvent des Minimes Hotel & Spa L'OCCITANE

Nestled on the hillside near the idyllic village of Mane and drenched in Provencal sunshine, this convent was home to nuns before it was converted into an upscale hotel. Protected from the Mistral wind by the statuesque Volx Rock, the building, which dates back to 1613, is a blend of medieval architecture and contemporary design. You will be delighted by the period facades, 100 year old terraced gardens, and the station of the cross overlooking the environs. The rooms have been decorated with great attention to detail and have a gentle Mediterranean style, as does Le Couvent des Minimes Hôtel & Spa L'Occitane, a temple to wellness and a promise of renewed well being.

Villa La Coste

Monet’s Provence gets a seriously cool makeover at Villa La Coste. Every aspect of this seductive sleep – a collaborative effort among such visionaries as Frank Gehry, Renzo Piano, Tracey Emin, and Damien Hirst – is designed with an artistic sensibility, from the Francis Mallmann fire style of cooking to the glass walled Le Restaurant suspended over a reflecting pool. Natural light floods the 28 sleek Villa Suites, lavished with custom made comforts and mesmerizing views of the Luberon Valley. The 600 art filled acres include a biodynamic winery that produces exceptional rosés.
